A large female feline was moving around with its two cubs here and there for over a year. Apparently, the cubs have grown up and are on the prowl independently in the forests. After a break of a few months, a leopard has suddenly appeared in Shunthipadi in Aikala panchayat limits on Sunday around 5 pm. Its showing up during daytime has spread wide scare in the village.

When Naveen D’Souza was walking towards home after work, the animal suddenly appeared from behind the bushes and began chasing him. He ran for his life and saved himself. Where exactly the leopard escaped is not known.

Residents feel that the way it chased the man without provocation indicated that it might have tasted human blood already. It could be all the more dangerous to the human residing around. Workers in agricultural fields are now hesitating to report for duty.

The locals recalled that in February earlier this year, a male leopard had been trapped in a cage around the same spot and sent to Pilikula zoo. They have urged the forest personnel to capture this animal as early as possible to ensure the villagers’ safety.
