India is the only external threat: Pak military

Islamabad,  (PTI): Pakistan military has told a parliamentary committee that India is the only external threat to the country and the situation with regard to ties was volatile in the wake of the suspended Indo-Pak dialogue.

The Senate defence committee led by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed yesterday visited military’s Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where it was briefed by chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood and his team.

The military officials shared the perceived threat with members of the Senate that India had over the last couple of years purchased weapons worth USD 100 billion, 80 per cent of which were Pakistan-specific, the Dawn reported.

The Indian army’s ‘shopping spree’, it was said, was continuing and over the next five years it would be buying weapons worth another USD 100 billion.

India, which is the world’s second largest arms importer, has more than doubled its military spending over the last decade. Delhi’s defence budget for this year was USD 40.07 billion, the paper said.

This requires a continuous evaluation of the situation and upgradation of the response mechanism, the members were told.

The committee was also informed that the situation was volatile in view of the suspended dialogue between India and Pakistan and the absence of any conflict resolution mechanism.

They were also informed on how the Joint Staff Headquarters worked as a higher defence organisation and Strategic Plans Division, which is the custodian of the nuclear programme.

Talking about the non-traditional security challenges, the military officials said threats in cyberspace were posing a major challenge and urged the government to establish an Inter-Services Cyber Command to combat cyber-attacks and cyber-warfare.

  1. It’s depressing to see how Paak is more honest than our fake-secular crowd. Paak acknowledges the reality that we are enemies. However, there are millions on our side including many on this forum who refuse to call Paak an enemy nation. Sharia, Pincode, Joker, Manga to name a few…!!

    • Original Duplicate of USA – “However, there are millions on our side including many on this forum who refuse to call Paak an enemy nation. Sharia, Pincode, Joker, Manga to name a few…!!”

Sir, my Congress has smashed Pakistan and your RSS is exchanging gifts and pleasantries with Pakistan, despite daily killing pree of indian soldiers and civilians in Kashmir and Panjab!

  2. The main problem of Pakistan is its jealousy about India. So they go all the way to trouble peace. This has been played for political advantage by a certain political party that was reduced to double digits on 16th May 2014. Did some one say appeasement?

    • Dear Dronaachaaryaa, why do you hesitate to name the party that was reduced to double digits on 16th May 2014. There is no reason to fear that party, which is fatally knocked down. You still are under the hangover of the RSS thrill of such pretensions. Please be bold, at least now!

Coming to your illogical claim that Congress had played for political advantage of Pakistan’s misadventures, please tell if the bifurcation and division of erstwhile unified Pakistan into truncated Pakistan and a new state of Bangladesh, is a disservice to Mother India?

Exploding nuclear device by Indira Gandhi’s regime in 1974 is disservice to India?

Developing the bullock cart age backward India and bringing it to threshold of an Industrial Giant and Economic Super Power, keeping the inefficient system of democratic governance alive (as against the totalitarian China), is a disservice to India?

Making a beggar for food India into the surplus granary of the world and the world’s largest producer of dairy products is a disservice?

All this, despite the fact that India’s population grew from 30 crores to 120 crores after independence, adding the combined population of USA and Britain to India almost every decade, is a disservice to India?

Establishing the best advanced venues of science and technology and information technology, making India into the largest skilled workforce and engineers and doctors, including you Sir, is a mean achievement?

Please explain and substantiate your allegations, instead of ‘shoot and scoot’ behavior. ‘Hit and run’ mode does not make you a thinker and educator serving the country. Make concrete allegations, instead of making bald allegations, and I will prove you wrong in the estimate of discerning readers of However, not in the estimation of the RSS!

      Hope you would respond.

      • Pakistan is a gone case and should be compared with Somalia, Syria, Iraq and other countries where there is no rule of law at all and crimes are rampant.

When some politicians emphasize and reiterate that India should talk to Pakistan, I always think either they are unpatriotic or have holes in their heads. Pakistan is ruled by the military establishment and the Army Chief calls the shots. As an ex-Indian Diplomat once said on the television that in Pakistan even a 2nd Lieutenant does not care for Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif is just a Prime Minister in name and the military establishment is not answerable to him. If he tries to flex his mucles and tries to tell the military to toe the line and be answerable to him, then they will just put him into the slammer and file all sorts of cases against him. He missed that narrowly last time, when the ex-Pakistani military strongman, liar and braggart, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, had jailed him, but fortunately Saudis baled him out and allowed him to live there.

Further, if what I have seen on the Youtube, though Pakistan is a third or fourth world country, the Prime Minister makes frequent trips abroad for having a hair cut, getting his hair dyed, buying Italian shoes, etc.

Like any corrupt and/or shameless politician, he is just sitting on the chair, warming it, pocketing all the perquisites that go with the job and earning money by the bushels. He, it appears pays paltry taxes in Pakistan, but has swanky properties in the U.K. and pays high taxes. The Pakistani Army has its own parallel activities and privileges and, once retired, Generals can find jobs in their Fauzi Establishment.
