137 confirm attendance at Paris climate change summit

Paris, Nov 19 (IANS) At least 137 heads of state and governments have confirmed their attendance at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 11 in the French capital.

The leaders will give their speeches on the first day of COP21, where the total number of participants between delegations and representatives of associations and organisations will be 40,000 people, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announced on Thursday.

The foreign minister also confirmed the cancellation of two large-scale demonstrations, which were planned for November 29 and December 12, over security fears following the Paris terror attacks on November 13 that killed 129 people.

A series of parallel events to COP21 were called off following the terror attacks.
