Modi meets leading Singaporeans

Singapore, Nov 24 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met leading Singaporeans to start a busy second day of his visit to the country.

“A breakfast pitch to begin the day. PM @narendramodi has an early morning meeting with leading Singaporeans,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.

Modi arrived in Singapore from Malaysia on Monday for a bilateral visit in the second and last leg of his four-day visit to southeast Asia.

Modi meets Singapore president after ceremonial welcome

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam after being accorded a ceremonial welcome on Tuesday, the second day of his bilateral visit to this city state.

“Beginning at the top. PM @narendramodi calls on President Tony Tan Keng Yam of Singapore,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam visited India earlier this year.

“Ceremonial honours at Istana. A warm welcome for PM @narendramodi at the presidential palace,” Swarup tweeted earlier along with pictures of Modi with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

Modi started a busy second day of his Singapore visit with a breakfast meeting with leading Singaporeans.

Modi arrived in Singapore from Malaysia on Monday in the second and last leg of his visit to southeast Asia.

After his arrival here, he delivered the 37th Singapore Lecture on “India’s Singapore Story” during which he called for a united world voice against terrorism.

Modi holds bilateral talks with Singapore PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held bilateral talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong during which crucial decisions are expected to be taken on trade and investment between Indian and the southeast Asian city state.

“Learning from the ‘Singapore Story’. PM @narendramodi and PM @leehsienloong hold official talks,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.

After his arrival here from Malaysia on Monday, Modi was hosted for a dinner by Prime Minister Lee in an Indian restaurant at the Little India locality in Singapore.

Earlier on Tuesday, Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Istana, the presidential palace, following which he met Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Singapore’s emeritus senior minister calls on Modi

Singapore’s emeritus senior minister Goh Chok Tong called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, the second day of the latter’s bilateral visit to this city state.

“A true ambassador of #IndiaSingapore ties. Emeritus senior minister Goh Chok Tong calls on PM @narendramodi,” Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.

Goh served as Singapore’s second prime minister from 1990 to 2004.

Following his arrival in Singapore from Malaysia on Monday, Modi delivered the 37th Singapore Lecture during which he highlighted the stellar role Goh played in deepening India-Singapore ties.

Earlier on Tuesday, Modi called on Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam following a ceremonial welcome at Istana, the presidential palace.
