Christians, Muslims are ‘brothers’: Pope Francis

Bangui (AFP): Pope Francis today said Christians and Muslims were “brothers”, urging them to reject hatred and violence on a visit to a mosque in a flashpoint Muslim neighbourhood of the Central African Republic’s capital Bangui.

“Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters,” he said in an address at the central Koudoukou mosque in the PK5 district on the most dangerous part of his 24-hour visit to the war-torn nation.

“Those who claim to believe in God must also be men and women of peace,” he said in the district of flimsy shacks and red dirt roads which has been at the heart of recent sectarian violence pitting Muslim rebels against Christian vigilante groups.

“Together, we must say no to hatred, to revenge and to violence, particularly that violence which is perpetrated in the name of a religion or of God himself. God is peace, salam,” he said on a visit which has seen him hammering home a message of peace and reconciliation.

Addressing residents crowded into the mosque, Francis said his visit to the Central African Republic “would not be complete if it did not include this encounter with the Muslim community.”

  1. Yes, brothers!! History is littered with incidents influenced by this special brotherly love and affection from Jerusalem to Southern France!! Man, those history books got it all wrong!! smiles…

  2. You advice and words of wisdom are most welcome and it will certainly have a great impact on the lives of Christians in Iraq & Syria in particular, and around the world in general.

World leaders and our Muslim friends have repeatedly assured us that Islam is a religion of peace, but none have ever paid a recent visit to Raqqah and explained the same to Abu Baker Al Baghdadi and his estimated 50,000 foreign and hundreds of thousands of local fighters who have all misunderstood Islam.

Once Caliph Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi and you will meet at a mosque in Raqqah and when you repeat all of the above – PROBLEM SOLVED. The Jihadi’s would realize their grave blunders, and they would start apologizing profoundly, and begging for forgiveness. But what matters the most is Christian lives would be saved, and also all Christian and Yazidi sex slaves released………and we will have all live happily ever after.

Sir, Will the same message will be delivered to Christian “anti-balaka” militia in Central African republic , which has been fighting Muslim Séléka rebels for more than two years by Pope Francis ?

Since the outbreak of violence in 2013, around 6,000 people have been killed and a quarter of the population displaced in the CAR, according to a Global Conflict Tracker report. Despite significant mineral deposits and other resources such as uranium reserves, crude oil, gold, diamonds, lumber and hydropower, the CAR remains among the poorest countries in the world.
The terror has no religion. The terror is the only religion and their identity.

Let’s strive for the world peace and condemn them in sharpest voice.
