District governor killed in Afghanistan attack

Kabul, Dec 12 (IANS) A district governor was shot dead on Saturday following an attack in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province, police said.

“Suspected militants attacked the vehicle of Abdul Jabar Islami, governor of Burka district, around 10.30 a.m. (local time) on Saturday. Islami was killed shortly after his vehicle was intercepted,” Xinhua quoted Zabiullah Shoja, provincial police spokesman, as saying.

The deceased governor was travelling to his office in Burka after Friday’s holiday, he said.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
