Ganja, silver seized near Bangladesh border

Kolkata, Jan 7 (IANS) The BSF has seized seven kg of ganja and over 20 kg of silver from near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, an official said on Thursday.

In a special operation on Wednesday night, troopers of the 76 battalion of the Border Security Force seized 20.9 kg of silver valued at over Rs.7 lakh while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh near the Tarali border outpost.

In another operation near the Jayanti border outpost, troopers seized seven kg of ganja.

“In both the operations, the miscreants managed to escape under the cover of darkness but we foiled the smuggling attempt and seized valuables and contraband,” said a BSF officer.

The BSF so far in the year has seized 25 kg of silver valued at over Rs.8 lakh and 17 kg of ganja from across the South Bengal frontier.
