18 killed in Egypt ferry capsize

Cairo, Jan 1 (IANS) At least 18 people were killed when a ferry capsized in the river Nile, sources said on Friday.

The capsize occurred late Thursday in the Kafr el-Sheikh province, around 140 km north of capital Cairo, Xinhua news agency reported.

The boat carried 22 people and rescue teams were searching for the four missing people yet unaccounted for.

The cause of the accident was being investigated.
