5 killed 3 injured as Bus rams into Omni and bike at Yellapur

Yellapur: Five people including three women were killed and 3 others were seriously injured when a private bus rammed into a Maruti Omni and a motorbike at Yellapur on NH 63, about 125km from Bhatkal here, during the wee hours of Sunday, March 6.


Four passengers travelling in the Maruti Omni and the bike rider were killed on the spot while 3 others in the Omni were seriously injured.

According to sources the bus was on its way to Gokak from Mangaluru while the Omni was on the way to Dharmasthala from Haliyal.


Four of the dead who were travelling in the Omni are identified as Dev Jadhav (35), Shashikala Devamma (42), Akshata Devamma (22) and Sharadha (55), while the Bike rider is yet to be identified.

Three of the injured who are admitted in the Yellapur Govt hospital are Dyamanna Wadkar (45), Jyothi (19) and Anil (12)

It is said that seven persons of a family were on the way to Dharmasthala from Haliyal when the tragic accident occurred at Gullapur in Yellapur on the NH 63 at around 3:45 am.

Police have arrested the bus driver and a case has been registered in the Yellapur police station.
