Karkala: Teakwood from Govt Forests Seized at Ajekar – 2 Arrested, Another Escapes

Karkala: A load of teakwood logs, poached from government forests around the place and transported in a Tempo vehicle, was seized with the vehicle by the forest department personnel at Ajekar Kaikamba on Sunday.

On receiving information regarding the illegal transportation, they intercepted the vehicle. Logs worth Rs 39,236 and the vehicle worth about Rs 1 lakh were seized.

Ashwit and Satish Poojary who were in the vehicle were arrested, while another is said to have escaped. Complaints were being heard for long regarding poaching activity in the forests in the area.
