824 personnel awarded police medals

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) A total of 824 personnel were awarded police medals on the eve of India’s 69th Independence Day. Border Security Force (BSF) constable Sanjay Dhar was posthumously awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry.

Of the 824 personnel, four were awarded President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, 149 Police Medal for Gallantry, 76 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 595 were awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

A total of 44 personnel were awarded correctional service medals — including three President’s Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service and 41 Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received 24 medals — including seven President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 17 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

CBI joint director M.M. Oberoi was among six officials who received President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Of the 20 Delhi Police officers conferred police medals — four received Police Medal for Gallantry, two President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 14 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was awarded 121 police medals — 46 Police Medal for Gallantry, five President Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 52 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Border Security Force received 53 awards, including four Police Medal for Gallantry, six President Police Medal for Distinguished Services and 43 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was conferred 24 awards, including 19 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, one President’s Fire Service Medal and four Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was conferred 11 police medals, the Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) nine while the Special Protection Group (SPG) got three awards.

The ministry of home affairs (Intelligence Bureau) was conferred 30 police medals, including six President Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 24 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
