Amaravathi Movie on Pourakarmikas gets Good Response in Udupi

Udupi: Like-minded persons who formed a Whatsapp group called ‘Odugaru’ on a social media platform organised a movie “Amaravathi”, a story based on the Pourakarmikas. The movie was screened in Daina Theatre on Thursday, February 23.

Two shows were screened, at 4:30 p.m. and  7:30 p.m at the theatre. The theatre was packed with movie lovers who enjoyed the show. Interestingly some of the Pourakarmikas of Udupi and the surrounding areas also watched the film.

The story line is of Chenna the son of a sewage cleaner who aspires to lead a good life being an ideal student in his college. His mentor, a social reformer, encourages him to get out of the box and fight for his basic rights. Chenna’s tryst with revolution forms the backdrop of this narrative.

Amaravathi is no different as it exposes the underbelly of cosmopolitan Bengaluru, focusing on the lives of Pourakarmikas, people who are often neglected in the busy metropolitan hubs. The film throws some light on some of the ugly truths and topics that are seldom spoken about, leave alone the subject of a mainstream film. We see the BBMP board being blurred in some scenes by the makers, which shows the state of affairs of these people and how one cannot even talk about it on celluloid.

After the film was screened an interaction was also held. Viewers who spoke lauded the film. Giriraj director of the movie thanked the WhatsApp group.

Manjunath Kamath admin of the WhatsApp group said that people always like to watch movies with star actors. They don’t like stories like that of the Pourakarmikas. Sometimes such type of films does not even get a chance to be screened in major cities. Theatre owners are also not ready to take the risk. Last time our team had screened ‘Naanu Avanalla…Avalu’ at the Alankar Theatre and received a very good response. This time too we have received the same response from the audience, he added.

Film actor Santhosh, Hemanth Sushil, Parameshwar, Producer Madhav Reddy and others were also present.
