I analyse bowlers before every match: Dhawan

Mumbai, Dec 11 (IANS) Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on Friday said he prefers to watch videos of rival bowlers and tries to analyse them ahead of every match.

“Lot of preparations come into play when I prepare for a particular match. I try to play aggressively in nets so that I can take the momentum in the match also. I watch videos of the opposition and their bowlers before a match and analyse a bowler to play him well,” Dhawan said at a function here where the schedule for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 2016 was announced.

The 30-year-old said the shortest format of the game is something he also loved playing at.

“Always enjoyed playing T20 cricket. T20 has reached new heights now and the game has also given back to the players a lot. The range of new shorts and applications in the game has some in T20 cricket only. This is why youngsters are so interested in the shortest format of the game,” he said.

Former champions India will launch their World T20 2016 campaign in Nagpur against New Zealand on March 15, while it will go head to head with arch-rivals Pakistan in Dharamsala on March 19. Their other matches will be against the Group A (Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland and Oman) winner in Bengaluru on March 23 and Australia in Mohali on March 27.

When asked about which teams he would like to pick as favourites for the tournament, the Delhi batsman said gaining momentum will be the key in the tournament and the team playing better cricket on a particular day will win.

“Momentum is very important in this sort of tournament. The team who gets set and performs on the particular day will emerge winners in the tournament. I hope we prepare well for the matches and give our best and come out winners at home,” Dhawan said.
