Andhra, Telangana governor meets PM

New Delhi/Hyderabad, June 11 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.

During the 45-minute meeting, the governor is understood to have briefed Modi of the latest situation in the two states in the wake of cash-for-vote scam.

Narasimhan also met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He had called on President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday.

Narasimhan is believed to have submitted a report on the row between the two Telugu states following the arrest of a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader in Telangana for trying to bribe a nominated member Elvis Stephenson in the legislative council elections.

An audio tape of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s alleged telephonic conversation with Stephenson was aired on some TV channels on Sunday, triggering tension between the two states.

Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao met the governor couple of times during last few days to complain against each other.

Naidu also met Modi and central ministers in Delhi on Wednesday to demand a probe into alleged phone tapping by the Telangana government and also powers to governor to maintain law and order in Hyderabad in accordance with Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
