Vigo (Spain), July 22 (IANS) Argentine footballer Joaquin Larrivey will play the next season at Abu Dhabi-based club Baniyas after leaving Spanish outfit Celta de Vigo for a deal said to be worth two million euros ($2.1 million).

The forward started with Celta in 2014 at zero cost after finishing his contract with Rayo Vallecano. Larrivey played with Celta under the guidance of his compatriot Eduardo “Toto” Berizzo, starting in 35 La Liga games and scoring 11 goals, Efe reported on Wednesday.

This summer, he was on the verge of signing with Norwich, but the English club eventually opted out even as the player had passed the medical examination and the transfer agreement was complete.

Larrivey is the sixth player to leave Celta during this window, as Krohn-Dehli, Alex Lopez, Santiago Mina, Charles and Samuel Llorca have already departed, and Borja Oubina retired from professional football to join the club’s coaching staff.
