Argentine goalie out for 45 days after clash with Tevez

Buenos Aires, Feb 22 (IANS) Goalkeeper for Argentina’s Newell’s Old Boys, Ezequiel Unsain, will be out for 45 days due to a double fracture in his lower jaw caused by accidentally colliding with Boca Juniors player Carlos Tevez’s knee.

The accident happened on Saturday night during Boca’s 4-1 win in the Premier division match held in La Bombonera Stadium here, reports Xinhua.

In the last minutes of the first half, Tevez was in a one on one with 20-year-old Unsain when he accidentally hit the goalie in the face with his left knee. At that point, Boca were up 3-0.

Unsain was substituted and on Sunday he was operated on and according to doctors, he will be out for around 45 days while he recovers.

Unsain’s injury came at a difficult time for Newell’s since their coach Lucas Bernardi left the club after a 2-0 defeat against Central, in the city of Rosario last week.

Diego Osella has been hired to coach the Rosario-based side even though he currently coaches Bahia Blanco’s Club Olimpo.

Tevez received no card or punishment from the referee during the match.
