Bantwal: 22-year-old Madarasa Teacher Drowns in Phalguni near Sangabettu

Bantwal: Muhammed Afrid (22), hailing from Bannur near Puttur and serving as a teacher in a madarasa for Islamic religious education at Elya near Gadipalke of Sangabettu village, drowned in river Phalguni on Saturday evening.

He was trying to cross the river with an acquaintance on his way his way back from a dargah in Iruvail on the other side. The water level was low and hence they had decided to walk it across.

Afrid is said to have suddenly slipped into water and gone missing. The police were informed immediately and a search operation began with the help of divers from different places.

His body was traced only on Sunday. A case has been registered at the Bantwal rural police station.
