Bantwal: Tense moments prevailed at the church of Our Lady of Fatima in Muchirapadav in Peruvai near Adyanadka on Sunday after the weekly prayer service.
At the root of the row was the appointment of the head of a certain ward of the parish. According to the church rules, the members of each ward gather and elect the head, locally called a gurkar.
The election of the head of one of the wards, in contravention of the members’ choice, had reportedly been overruled by the parish leaders and the name of a woman member as replacement sent to the bishop of the diocese for confirmation.
This enraged the ward members and a heated argument ensued on Sunday. Before it could take an ugly turn, the police were informed as a matter of precaution. When they arrived, the matter had cooled down and they went back without recording any case.
