Bantwal: Car Forcibly Taken away by Gang Found Abandoned in Modankap

Bantwal: Mohan Shetty, a contractor residing in Narvaldadka of Moodupadukodi village here, was accosted by a gang as he was coming out of a cooperative bank near the Polali arch near Kaikamba on Tuesday.

He had just taken out a set of gold jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh from the bank’s locker and was walking towards his Maruti Swift car which he had parked outside the bank earlier.

The gang, allegedly led by Sumit Alva of Ponnodi, also forcibly took the jewellery and the car away. Shetty had filed a complaint at the town police station against Alva and three others.

The car was found abandoned near the railway underbridge at Modankap by the side of the road to Polali. However, there are no clues about the gold.

Police sources said that the miscreants seemed to have been interested only in the gold. They might arrived in a different vehicle. They did not use theirs to escape to avoid detection. After abandoning the car at Modankap, they might have fled in their own vehicle, said the police.
