Bantwal: An incident of robbery that took place outside a cooperative bank near the Polali temple arch at Kaikamba in broad daylight on Tuesday has unnerved the residents.
Mohan Shetty, a contractor residing at Narvaldadka in Moodupadukodi, had arrived at the branch of the Vittal Rural Cooperative Bank for transactions. He withdrew jewellery from his safe deposit locker and was walking out of the premises around 11-30 am.
He was intercepted by a gang of four, allegedly led by Sumit Alva of Ponnodi. They are said to have flashed swords and wooden sticks at him, abused and threatened him.
They not only snatched the gold ornaments he carried but also forcibly took the ignition keys of his Swift car which he had parked earlier. The total value of the robbed items is said to be in excess of Rs 4 lakh. Some documents also had remained in the car, which the gang took away.
In a complaint filed at the town police station, Shetty has stated that he had no dealings with Alva. However, Alva did have some financial transactions with him long ago. Alva had made an attempt on his life and a case in this connection is being heard in the court.
