Bantwal: Court Slaps Fine of Rs 5,000 on Cop for Failing to Attend Proceedings

Bantwal: The junior magistrate first class court here has levied a fine of Rs 5,000 from a police constable for failing to attend a court hearing.

The then-station house officer of the town station, Madhava Koodlu, had raided the office of an advocate in 2009 and arrested Thomas Monteiro, a resident of Bolangadi who had been wanted in a case.

In this connection, advocate Suresh Poojary had filed a private plaint against five police constables. Responding to the summons, Koodlu and others, except Vasant Gowda, had appeared in the court.

In spite of issuance of a warrant, he is said to have failed to appear in court. Only after the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him, he presented himself in front of the magistrate, who took him to task.

He was slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 and released on conditional bail.
