Bantwal: A private night bus from Mysuru on its way to Kundapur rolled over at a turn in Panjikallu Sornad in the early hours of Wednesday. Nine persons were injured in the incident.
The bus was plying on Madikeri-Sullia-Puttur-B C Road-Loreto-Moodbidri-Karkala-Manipal route towards Kundapur. At a steep turn near Bandasale, the driver appeared to have lost control over the vehicle. It landed flat on its side at the edge of the road. In all, thirtyfive were travelling in the bus.
While the driver and the conductor escaped unhurt, Vishwanath (66) and Vasanti (62) of Udupi Kenjar, D N Pushpa (46) of Ramakrishna Nagar in Mysuru, Aniruddha (33) of Udupi, Steven D’Souza (23) of Puchamogaru of Mangaluru taluk, Sudha (40) of Kudloor of Chamarajanagar, Sulochana (48) of Miyar, Sunita (33) of Bailoor in Udupi and Aniruddha (8) of Parkala sustained injuries.
They have been admitted to private hospitals in Tumbe, Mangaluru and Manipal. Ambulances were requisitioned from B C Road and Siddakatte. Residents around helped in rescuing the injured through the windows of the bus and getting them shifted to hospitals.
A case has been registered in the traffic police station.
