Bantwal: Three Lorries Carrying Excess Load of Sand Seized and Fined

Bantwal: There was rampant sand extraction going on at different points by the banks of river Netravati during the past few years.

Most part of the activity was without authorization. But after the district administration came down heavily on it, the number of lorries has decreased.

However, the transporters have found a way out by overloading the lorries. This has caused slow movement of the traffic as also heavy damage to the road surfaces on highways leading to Mysuru and Bengaluru.

After receiving complaints in this matter, officials of the department of mining and geology checked the lorries transporting sand on Monday.

Three lorries were found transporting loads of sand far in excess of the approved limits. They were seized and given to the custody of Bantwal town police station.

The owners of the lorries were reportedly made to pay up fines of Rs 25,000 each and then the vehicles were released.
