Bantwal: Youth from Siddakatte Jumps off Netravati Bridge, Rescued by Locals

Bantwal: Some parts of the taluk are sensitive areas where very often sparks of communal strife flare up. But, at the same time, some instances of exemplary humanitarian acts are being reported which retrieve the reputation of the place, once earlier known for peace and harmony.

Many a time, in emergencies, members of the majority community have saved the lives of the minority communities and vice versa. Sattar Goodinabali, an autorickshaw driver is one such person who always rushes to help people in distress. Having saved many lives from drowning in river Netravati, he has been honoured with the title ‘Netravati Veera’ by none other than Shri Ramananda Swamiji of Kollya.

Spirit of brotherhood and harmony was once again displayed by when Dinesh (25), who appeared distressed and depressed, jumped off the Netravati bridge on Tuesday. As he was being washed away in the water, the level of which was already high because of the rains, Mohammed, Iqbal and Rizwan, all residents of Goodinabali, jumped into the river, risking even their own lives.

Dinesh was brought to the river bank and tended by the youngsters. The police who arrive and the public who had gathered were all praise for the bravery of the youngsters at the risk of their own lives.
