Beltangady: Many prominent citizens of the state have expressed surprise over the popularity of TV reality shows like Bigg Boss. They feel that wrong messages are being sent to the younger generation on morals and conduct.

For the sake of keeping its TRP ratings booming and to keep the controversies going, a Kannada TV channel has been hosting this programme.

One of the star attractions among the participants in this year’s edition is ‘Huccha’ (madcap) Venkatesh, a maverick Kannada actor, who, surprisingly, has a big fan following.

He was checked out of the team for violations a few days ago and a rival channel invited him for a panel discussion. During the programme, the main anchor and his female assistant raised the question of the Constitution of India and its main architect, Dr B R Ambedkar.

Venkatesh allegedly made a highly derogatory remark about Dr Ambedkar. Dalit and other organizations fighting for social justice and equality are now up in arms against the actor.

A few complaints have been filed in different police stations not only against Venkatesh, but also against the news channel, its editor and anchors.

Venkatesh is facing the reality of the ripple effects of his thoughtless remark. The Dalit Sangharsh leader Nagaraj Laila has filed a complaint in the Beltangady police station, seeking severe action against the actor.
