Beltangady: MLA Says He is Prepared to Quit in Protest against Netravati Diversion

Beltangady: Members of a forum agitating against the proposed plan to divert river Netravati met Beltangady MLA K Vasant Bangera in the CA Bank’s auditorium at Padmunja on Tuesday.

When they sought his support to their just cause, Bangera asserted that he had been opposed to the project right from the beginning. He reminded that he had expressed his strong opposition at various public fora as well as on the floor of the legislative assembly.

He declared that in future also he would make this stand of his clear, while stressing that he would not be bothered even if his party were to throw him out.

Asked as to why many elected representatives from the region had not raised their voice against the proposed project which was likely to squeeze the district dry, he said that possibly the government’s stand and power came in their way.

Apologizing for his inability to join the proposed road blockade on Sep 15 on account of ill-health, they could rest assured of his full support, he added.

Among those who came to meet him were Kailar Rajgopal Bhat, Aziz Ninnikal, U T Irshad and Prashant D’Costa.
