Belthangady: Jeep Negligently Moved in Reverse Mode – Child Dies, Another Critical

Belthangady: A child died and another critically injured in a freak mishap at Umbeje Puduvettu in Neria village in the taluk on Sunday.

Raghava Gowda of Karpaje in Miyaru Puduvettu operates a jeep between Miyaru and Ujire for the benefit of the residents of the region. Since he is getting a new house constructed, his two children, Swasti (6) and Sanvi (3), stayed in his mother-in-law’s house at Umbeje and attended school.

Because of the weekend, he had brought the children home. On Sunday, he was taking them back to Umbeje in the jeep, which was driven by a spare driver.

On the way, the jeep was stopped to pick up two passengers. Raghava vacated the front seat and took the children to the rear of the jeep to make them occupy the seats at the back.

At this point, the driver suddenly happened to move the jeep in reverse mode. Both children fell under the vehicle and were severely injured. Swasti died on the way to the hospital, while Sanvi is being treated in a private hospital in Ujire.

The Belthangady police have registered a case of negligence against the driver.
