Bengaluru: The city crime branch police had taken custody of Bannanje Raja, an underworld don wanted in many cases, from the Hindalga jail in Belagavi.
It was for the purpose of interrogating him in connection with a shootout in Kadirenahalli in 1997 and another case of murder of Srinivas.
On Thursday, they produced him in the III additional metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) court here. The advocates for the accused opposed his being handed to police custody.
They argued that he had already been acquitted in the murder of 1997 and the remaining were petty cases.
But the advocate for the CCB convinced the court that Raja’s hand had been suspected in many other grievous offences in the city and therefore his further questioning was necessary.
The court therefore allowed the CCB to keep him in their custody for 14 days.
While initially he will be questioned in the CCB premises, the later phase is likely to be held in a designated place elsewhere.
