Bengaluru: Debt-ridden couple commit suicide

Bengaluru (DHNS): A City-based couple, who were reportedly burdened by heavy debts, committed suicide on Friday. They are survived by two sons.

According to the police, Mangalamma, 32, killed herself at Banasanahalli in Akkur police limits in Ramanagara district and her husband Basavalingappa, 38, ended his life in Honagasandra near Bommanahalli, soon after he heard the news of his wife’s death.

Mangalamma was working as a daily wage labourer and her husband was employed at a bakery in Honagasandra.

Mangalamma and Basavalingappa were in distress due to their financial condition and used to fight often over the issue.

On Friday evening, Mangalamma consumed sleeping pills while Basavalingappa hanged himself in his room in Honagasandra, said the police.

They are survived by two sons aged six and eight.

A case has been registered.
