Bengaluru: HC Grants Parole to Jailed Man to Attend Wife’s Funeral in Mangaluru

Bengaluru: The state high court has granted three days’ parole to Joseph Paul Pais (75), who has been serving a jail-term here, to attend his wife’s funeral in Mangaluru.

Pais, who was with Central Bank of India as deputy accounts officer, had been jailed by the 32nd additional city civil and sessions court for three years.

Since his wife Monica Pais, residing in Bijai Kapikad in Mangaluru, has passed away on Thursday morning, the jail authorities were requested him to allow him to attend the funeral.

As they had denied permission, a petition was filed in the high court in this regard.

His advocate argued that he was bound to attend the funeral and hence a three-day parole be granted.

A single-judge bench presided over by Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri approved of the request on humanitarian grounds.
