Bengaluru: A team of police nabbed culprits accused of kidnapping behind a restaurant near Ramanagar, but the main accused managed to escape on December 22.
According to the police, the accused is identified as Kiran. The accused along with seven of his associates kidnapped his onetime business partner Tarun Kumar (28), near Crown Plaza International Hotel at 1:30am on December 15.
Kiran and Kumar were partners but had financial disagreements. So Kumar had left the firm and started working with his relative, George Fernandes who runs an orphanage.
Kiran took the help of Srinivas (40) of Banashankari, Raju (28) from Jalahalli, Venkatesh (38) from Kengeri, Madhukar (29) of Maddur, and Mahendra from Bovipalya, to kidnap Kumar.
On December 15 when Kumar was riding with Swamy an associate when the group attacked them and kidnapped Kumar. Swamy was shocked and called George, who immediately informed the police. Shortly afterwards, George received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 15 lakhs. The police asked George to accept the demand of ransom and traced the ransom call to Ramanagar.
The police went with George in disguise to the pre-determined place. The suspects tried to dodge the police by changing their cars. The police however zeroed in on five of the suspects behind hotel Adigas in Ramanagar and rescued Kumar.
Kiran and two of his accomplices Viji and Gopi managed to escaped, said the Hennur police.
