Bengaluru: Minister Ananth Kumar Inaugurates India Pharma 2016 and India Medical Expo 2016

The 1st edition of the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Electronics & Device sectors flagship event India Pharma 2016 & India Medical Expo 2016, gets underway in the midst of a substantivedais with 5 Ministers, Over 25 Senior Government officials from Government of India, Government of Karnataka, Industry Stalwarts and representatives of various Industry associations & International trade bodies

Bengaluru: India Pharma 2016 & India Medical Expo 2016 was inaugurated by the Ananth Kumar, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers in presence of Guests of Honour, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers,Govt. of India, R V Deshpande, Minister of Industries, Govt of Karnataka, U T Khader, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Karnataka, Dr Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil, Minister for Medical Education, Govt. of Karnataka, Dr V K Subburaj, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals and Senior Officials from Department of Pharmaceuticals and Officials from the Government of Karnataka.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of over 600 Delegates which included 60 CEO’s from the top 100 Pharmaceuticals & Medical Device companies from India and abroad,over 50 Senior Officials of Foreign Embassies/Consulates in India and over 100 International Hosted Delegates.

The annual event is jointly organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Government ofKarnataka is the Host State to the event which is being organized in Bangalore.

The Inauguration began with the welcome address by Sudhansh Pant, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India who said that “the event would be a flagship platform for the Indian Pharmaceuticals & Medical Device sector to showcase its capabilities, strength and opportunities to the global healthcare community” and thanked the Government of Karnataka to be the host state and the support Officials of the Industries & Health Department gave to the event under the leadership of the Hon’ble Ministers.

Speaking at the event Ananth Kumar mentioned that the Department of Pharmaceuticals has taken various steps for the growth of Indian Pharmaceuticals and Medical Device sector and the important initiatives in that regard are the pricing regulation, FDI Policy and the Make in India campaign for the sector. He mentioned “The Union Cabinet has given its approval to amend the existing FDI policy in the pharmaceutical sector in order to cover medical devices. The Cabinet has allowed FDI up to 100 per cent under the automatic route for manufacturing of medical devices subject to specified conditions. The drugs and pharmaceuticals sector attracted cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows worth US$ 12,813.02 million between April 2000 and December 2014, according to data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP)”.

EEPC & Pharmexcil with the support from Ministry of Commerce have hosted buyers from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Tunisia, Indonesia, Malavi, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Ukraine, Kyrgyz Republic, Iraq and Tanzania.

The attraction of the event is the 2 days parallel conference on the Pharmaceutical & Medical Device sector, CEO’s Forum with the Hon’ble Minister, Investors Forum, Make in India theme pavilion, Theme Session on Make in India, Innovators pavilion and live demonstrations in the exhibition.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Vinay Mathur, Deputy Secretary General, FICCI thanked the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of Karnataka and the representatives from the Industry for the tremendous support for the first edition of the event. He said the event will establish itself as an event of repute in the International fraternity and would be one of the biggest in Asian Subcontinent in coming years. The Government of India has already freezed the dates for the next 3 editions which would also be organized in Bengaluru.
