Bengaluru: A body of Chartered accountants has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) plaint in the state high court, seeking extension of the deadline set for filing income tax returns up to October 31, 2015.
Taking up the case for hearing, a bench with acting CJ Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagaratna issued notices to the income tax department of the Union government and all respondents.
It has been submitted in the plaint that the Union government had a routine of beginning the process of income tax returns in June. But this year it has introduced new forms, with a delay of two months. Hence it was not convenient for assessees to file the returns by the currently set deadline.
The advocate for the plaitiff pleaded that the deadline therefore be extended up to October 31.
