Bengaluru: Justice Kedambady Jagannatha Shetty (84), retired judge of Karnataka high court, passed away at his residence on Friday, Feb 12 morning, following prolonged illness.

He is survived by daughter Rekha Rai and Dr Ramananda Shetty, who is serving in Jamaica in the Caribbeans. Family sources said that his arrival is awaited and the final rites would be held on Sunday, Feb 14.

Born in Kedambady in Puttur taluk of DK district in 1931, he had commenced his legal practice in 1962. Elevated to the high court bench as an additional judge in 1990, he became a full-time judge in 1991.

A few of his judgements have remained as landmarks and are being cited even now. He headed the commissions appointed by the state governments of the time to go into the Haveri firing on farmers demanding fertilizers and Bhatkal riots cases.

He had shown great interest in literary and cultural fields. Many of his poems and writeups have appeared in different periodicals.
