Bengaluru: The frothing at Bellandur lake near the Ammanikere waste-weir continued on Sunday and aggravated towards the evening following a heavy downpour.

The residents in the lake vicinity, complained that with foam spilling onto the road they are finding it tough to walk or drive the vehicles.

Former president of Bellandur Gram Panchayat K Jagannath said, “The froth is causing hardship to the commuters, who are using Bellandur Tank Bund Road to reach Marathahalli, Yemalur, Indiranagar and other surrounding areas.

The aggrieved residents said that a couple of months back, effective microorganism (EM) solution was sprayed into the lake to curb the frothing problem. But it didn’t yield the desired results. They added that though the treatment plant near Bellandur lake is operational, it is below the required capacity.

“The frothing process is going on for more than five years, now. The stench is unbearable and many people in our locality and Yemalur are falling sick,” rues, Ramesh Shivaram, a resident of Bellandur.

Jagannath, who had approached State Legal Services Authority over the contamination of Bellandur lake, said that more than 20 villages in and around the water body such as Kempapura, Munnekolala, Kariyammana Agrahara, Panathur among others are affected badly.

“The borewells have been polluted as well. We are planning to hold protests and meet Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Health officials in the coming days to highlight the problem. Since the froth contains deadly chemicals, people, in contact with it, suffer from skin diseases and vehicles are also damaged,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Koramanagala 1 and 2, Bellandur Division) Engineer Naveen said that the BWSSB officials will visit the water body on Monday.

  1. What else can you expect in a third-world country? This is a clear sign of raw sewage in lake!! Am I surprised? No – not at all !! What do you expect from a country where a few hundred million people don’t even have access to toilets!! Clearly, untreated human-waste is being dumped into this lake!! Those who are complaining about health problems and bad smell should start looking at their own actions first!! People get what they deserve!!

There is no point in blaming politicians as they are just an extension of our own society. The would never dare to ignore a problem of this magnitude in a society that holds itself to a higher standards! We attack a leader like Modiji for talking about ‘swatchcha bhaaratha’ and politics of excellence!! This is what we deserve for endorsing politics of incompetence!! #disgusting

  2. We attack a leader like Modiji for talking about ‘swatchcha bhaaratha’ and politics of excellence!!-Atheist Mr.Original Pai

Sir,Ganga cleaning is the major issue and part of BJP election manifesto . It is the Supreme Court has again criticised the poor progress of the Ganga Action Plan and asked the NDA government whether it would be able to complete the cleaning of the river in this term or in the next.So far Rs. 2000 crore has spent just dumping into the water like someone taking holy dip.

Tweets, photo ops, and clever slogans cannot bring about the change India needs. If Mr. Modi wishes to be the transformative leader that Indians gave him a mandate for, he must back up his inspiring rhetoric with action. He needs to fill the ranks of government with talented administrators, pledge to openness and transparency in government affairs, and unreservedly condemn and sideline the communalist forces among his allies.

Modi can’t expect 8th grade failed incompetent Uma Bharati to grab ‘mud’ from the floor of ganges. It needs expertise, planning, funding and execution. A 15 lakh to every Indian can be ‘Jumla’ but even citizens are closing watching the actions. It is time to walk the talk.

Maximum utterance, minimum governance is the present reality.

    Jai hind
