Bengaluru: Worker Crushed to Death at Metro Construction Site

Bengaluru: In a construction accident, a twenty-one year old man was crushed to death by a lorry carrying soil.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Oram from Jharkhand.

According to sources, the accident occurred at Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) worksite at around 2.30 am on 6 December. Oram was working at the site when the driver of the lorry accidentally reversed the vehicle and crushed him under the back wheel. An injured Oram was carried to the nearby Victoria Hospital, where he was declared ‘brought dead’.

BMRCL authorities said that the family of the deceased had been informed and arrangements had been made for them to arrive and take the body back to Jharkhand by air.

The contractor has provided a compensation of Rs 50000 to the victim’s family. BMRCL also announced a relief of Rs 50000 to the family. The family will also receive compensation under the Workmen Compensation Act.

An accident case has been registered under the Upparpet Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
