Bhasker K elected Mayor and Mohammed K Deputy Mayor of MCC

Mangaluru: The 20th Mayoral election of Mangaluru City Corporation was held at the Mangala hall, MCC here on March 8.

Bhasker K was elected as the Mayor of Mangaluru. Mohammed Kunjathbail has been elected as the deputy Mayor of MCC.

The Regional commissioner from Mysuru Shivayogi Kalasa conducted the election Process. MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazir and ADC Kumar monitored the election Process.

For the Mayor post, there were 4 applications, 3 for Bhasker K and one from the opposition for Surendra. Bhasker K was elected as the new Mayor of MCC with a margin of 18 votes as Bhasker secured 37 votes and Surendra from the opposition secured 19 votes. While five corporators abstained from voting.

The corporators from the opposition congratulated the newly elected Mayor Bhasker and Deputy Mayor Mohammed. They also said that both Bhasker and Mohammed are able leaders and under their leadership, the MCC will concentrate on the pending development work. Both Mayor and deputy should take all the 60 corporators into confidence before sanctioning or taking up any development projects. We, all the corporators from the opposition will support the Mayor and deputy Mayor throughout their tenure in carrying out development work in all the wards. The newly elected Mayor has vast experience in the development work of the MCC and under his leadership, the MCC will complete all the pending development projects.

Outgoing Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “In my one year of tenure as Mayor I have done my duty with integrity. In just one year we cannot stop all the illegal work, we need the support of all the council members. Whatever work is incomplete, the present Mayor will complete it. My sincere request is to respect the women present in the council which we are lacking. Whoever respects women are respecting the Goddesses”, she said with the hope that women councillors in future will be respected.

Addressing the corporators and the gathering newly elected Deputy Mayor Mohammed said, “I would like to thank District Minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai, MLA of South Constituency J R Lobo, MLA of North Constituency Moideen Bava, District Congress President Harish Kumar, my mentor former education minister B A Moideen, Minister U T Khader for their support to become the deputy mayor. Many opposition corporators have advised to complete the pending development projects. I assure them with the help of the newly elected Mayor and the support from all the corporators all the pending work will be completed. If there are any issues please come to us and we will unitedly find a solution.”

Mayor Bhasker K said, “The Mangaluru City Corporation has received many awards for its development work. Since all of you have advised and want to complete the pending projects, I will surely try to fulfill your demands. Because all the 60 corporators have worked hard for the development of their respective wards, it has brought laurels to the Mangaluru City Corporation. We all should be united for the total development of Mangaluru City corporation. I also congratulate all the women on World Women’s day. Women will surely be respected in the council in the coming days,” he assured.

  1. Congratulations to the newly elected Mayor & Deputy Mayor.
    It is my hope that the areas lying at the edges of the City Corporation area will not get “forgotten” – like Pachanady Bondel and the Padushedde Moodushedde link road that abuts the Corporation area that has been neglected.
