The loud sound of the bike is thought to have irritated and enraged the animal. Bison are normally believed to be harmless unless they feel insecure or perceive any threat.

Bhaskar Ganiga (52), a resident of Kollur who was riding the bike, got thrown over and was critically injured. He was admitted to a hospital in Manipal but he succumbed to the injuries in the early hours of Sunday.

A case has been filed at the Kollur police station.
