According to on Aarati, on September 8, at around 5:30pm, she went to the bathroom to heat the water. After lighting the firewood, as she was taking more firewood from the stock, a snake bit her hand. When she screamed for help, her husband and other family members rushed to see what was wrong. While searching for the snake, they found it coiled under the wood.

Since it was very difficult to identify the type of snake, they caught it and brought it to the hospital in a plastic bottle. They immediately called the ambulance and caught the snake, and brought Aarati and the snake to the Bantwal government hospital. But due to lack of facilities, Aarati was shifted to the government Wenlock Hospital.

“Aarati is recovering in the hospital. The snake is one-and-half feet long and was very difficult to identify so we brought the snake to the hospital so that the doctors could identify and treat Aarati accordingly”, said neighbour Ramesh who caught the snake.

Ramesh also said that most of the people when they are bitten by the snake, panic and rush to the hospital without finding the snake. Doctors at the hospital will find it difficult in treating such cases. Sometimes people kill the snake but Aarati and Dayanand used their presence of mind and searched for the snake.

  1. People are lucky that they caught the snake without bite to many others. Many a times such search for the snake results in bites to many more people. It is better not to search for the snake and get in to more trouble. In India only one type of Anti-Snake venom; so it is not necessary to catch the snake dead or alive and bring to the Hospital. Most important thing is to bring the snake bite victim to the Hospital at the earliest without wasting time.

  2. Next time pls do not waste any time looking for the snake. Rush the patient to the hospital, cos snake bites can be fatal if treatment is delayed. Antivenom must be administered asap to the patient. Glad to hear that she is recovering
