Bola Chittaranjan Das Shetty (72) No More

Mangaluru: Popular Kannada and Tulu Veteran literary and Rajyotsava awardee Bola Chittaranjan Das Shetty, died due to cardiac arrest at his residence at Kadri Kambla, here on August 7. He was 72.

On August 7, morning Bola Chittaranjan spoke to his friends on the phone as usual. Being Nagara Panchami, his wife went to the temple and Chittaranjan was alone at home. When his wife returned home at 4:00 pm, Chittaranjan had already died due to cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital but doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Bola Chittaranjan was born on August 30, 1944, in Bola Karkala. He is the eldest son of Parthimar Guthu Manjayya Shetty and Rukmini Shetty. He was married to Kushala Shetty.

In 1973, Bola had written his first book “Ponnu Mannuda Bombe”, and in 1983 he wrote an essay “Kambula” the first of its kind on Tulunadu sports. In the year 1990 he wrote a Kannada novel “Alidulidavaru”, which made him very popular. In 2006, he had written a tulu stage play “Neer” for children and also published his book ‘paad-dhana’.

In 2012 he won the Tulu honorary, Shri Krishna Vadiraja Award and in 2013 he received the Rajyotsava award. He was the president of DK District Sahitya Sammelana.

He is survived by wife and two sons. On August 8, cremation will be held at Kutthar Guthu, Thokkottu.
