Bride walks several km to Karnataka border to try and reach TN

Bengaluru, Sep 13, 2016 (PTI): Amid the Cauvery turbulence, a 25-year-old bride braved her way to Karnataka border in an attempt to reach Vaniyambadi in neighbouring Tamil Nadu by walking several kilometres in the absence of public transport system.

R Prema, a citizen of Bengaluru, is getting married tomorrow to a man living in Tamil Nadu.

Since public transport vehicles were off the road due to the unrest caused by the Cauvery row, the young bride had to walk several kilometres and hire private vehicles before reaching Hosur on Bengaluru border.

“I am coming from Bengaluru. We walked several kilometres before reaching Hosur (Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border). We faced a lot of problems. Since we did not have transport facilities, we came by bus and an auto,” Prema said.

While she narrated her tale of hardship, Prema had a word of wisdom for people who were fomenting violence and disturbing peace and tranquillity in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

“I just want to tell one more thing sir. We should understand we are all Indians. Both people in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are facing problems. This is not the right way (to perpetrate violence and disturb peace and tranquillity in both states),” she said.

Further narrating her woes, Prema said she has lost the joy to get married to some extent as she had invited about 600 people for her marriage, but only 20 people were coming for the event.
“Really (My marriage) has become an unforgettable event to me. We had distributed about 600 wedding cards but only 20 people were coming. So we are missing lot of joy,” she said.

People accompanying her were carrying clothes, utensils and gifts required for the event.
The disturbance over release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu has paralysed road traffic between the two states. Vehicles bearing Tamil Nadu registration plates have become the target of fringe Kannada outfits.
