Berlin, Sep 14 (IANS) Bremen came up with late goals to inflict on Hoffenheim their third loss in four games while Schalke carved out a 2-1 victory over clinical Mainz to conclude the 4th round of Bundesliga matches.
Hoffenheim gave away one point on home soil after Bremen’s Anthony Ujah and Zlatko Junuzovic scored late goals to snatch the second straight win on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
Bremen dominated the first half against uninspired Hoffenheim yet the visitors had to wait just before the break as Zlatko Junuzovic tapped in a rebound from inside the box at the 44th minute.
Hoffenheim recovered after the break and picked up the pace to level the scores through substitute and new arrival Eduardo Vargas, who slotted home a through ball three minutes into the second half.
The hosts gained momentum with the equalizer but they failed to make use of their chances. As a consequence, Bremen grabbed the lead out of the blue when substitute Claudio Pizzaro set up for Athony Ujah, who slotted home the 2-1 lead from close range in the dying minutes of the game.
Nevertheless, the visitors were not done with the scoring as Zlatko Junuzovic sealed his brace to make with the last action of the game.
With the second win of the season, Bremen move on the sixth place while Hoffenheim slumped into the bottom after gaining just one point from four games.
Elsewhere, Schalke also wrapped their second win at the fourth round as they overcame Mainz 2-1.
After a squandered foul play penalty in the opening period by Klaas Jan Huntelaar Schalke were finally able to open the scoring through Joel Matip who headed home a corner by Johannes Geis in the 36th minute.
Mainz however, remained unimpressed and restored parity through Yunus Malli six minutes later to shock the hosts.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar made good for his wasted penalty shot as he snatched the victory for the “Royal Blues” in the 61st minute after slotting home from 14 meters into the bottom left corner.
With the second victory Schalke return to winning ways and move on the fifth position meanwhile Mainz suffer a setback after two straight win to slip on the 10th place.
