A Chauffeur Once, Now Set to be in Driver’s Seat at Udupi ZP

Udupi: Fortunes can turn the tables anytime. Besides, empowerment of the marginalized classes ushered in by the Panchayat Raj is being seen all around.

Dinakar Udyavar (37), fondly called ‘Devu’, who resides near the SDM Ayurvedic College in Kattegudde of Udyavar, had earlier worked as a night watchman in the department of youth services and sports for ten years.

He has studied up to PUC level. He was later owner-driver of a car hired by the Zilla panchayat drove the ZP staff and members around.

He chose a new path and jumped into the political fray. He won the Zilla panchayat election as a BJP candidate from Udyavar seat and defeated his Congress rival by a margin of 615 votes.

Now, with the new reservations, Dame Luck has smiled at him. The BJP has 20 seats in the house while Congress has 6. Dinakar is the only member belonging to the scheduled castes category, and Congress has none.

He is all set to adorn the seat of the president of the ZP for the coming five years. Those who may have treated him as a subordinate in the past have to stand in attention now on when dealing with him.
