Chelsea deserved EPL title last year: City captain Kompany

London, July 31 (IANS) Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany concedes that Chelsea played attractive football and deserved to clinch the 2014-15 English Premier League (EPL) title.

“Chelsea were the best team in England by far last season. They played attractive football against the teams they knew they could afford to play attractive football against,” the 29-year old defender was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk on Thursday.

“In matches they knew would be harder, they were very efficient. There’s an art to that you have to respect. We wanted it just as much as we did the year before. We have to be more consistent.

“Our home form was our strength in the seasons we won the title, but last season it let us down.”

In last season’s Manchester derbies, City lost 2-4 against United at Old Trafford in April, having beaten Louis van Gaal’s men 1-0 in November.

“I’ve got personal reasons why I want to win those (Manchester derby) matches. I hate losing derbies, but you don’t play those types of game and win them all it just doesn’t happen,” Belgium captain Kompany said.
