Chikkamagaluru: 180-minute Downpour Surprises and Soaks Coffee Country

Chikkamagaluru: Residents of this city and around had a surprise on Wednesday, Feb 24 evening, when a sudden pre-summer shower soaked the region, known for its aromatic coffee.

Students, office-goers, tourists and the public alike had in the least expected it. People were seen fumbling around for shelter.

Loud thunder, storm and rain began around 3-30 pm. Heavy rains hit the whole region until 5 pm. Most residents remained confined to their homes.

There were reports that houses in low-lying areas had water flowing in. Drainages filled with trash and plastic junk caused the water to flow over the roads.

Rains were reported along the Baba Budan Giri range of hills. When their opinion was sought, some coffee-growers were too unprepared to even respond.

Informed persons said that most of the planters were worried about the unseasonal blossoming of coffee,
