Chikkamagaluru: Former Naxal Mallika Turns over a New Leaf, Enters Wedded Life

Chikkamagaluru: Mallika of Sringeri, who had identified herself with Naxalite activities and got arrested in 2005, entered wedlock in Sringeri on Sunday.

Her marriage with Shettigod Girish took place in the Vidyabharati Bhavan. The bridegroom hails from a Brahmin family of Gandaghatta village. He is the son of Shankaraiah of Shettigod and works as manager at the Vidyabharati Bhavan.

She hailed from Herur of Kundur village of Koppa taluk and had been attracted to Naxalism. When the Naxalite activities were at their peak in the Kudremukh national park around 2005, she was keenly involved in them. After her arrest in 2005, she faced court proceedings for a few years.

In 2010, she surrendered under a Naxal package offered by the state government. In return she was granted cash and land. She was also given a job in the revenue office in Koppa.
