Chikkamagaluru: Hic! ‘Alcohol a Must as Fatigue-reliever’ – Women from Villages Tell DC

Chikkamagaluru: Reports are often heard from various parts of the country about women agitating against alcohol joints operating at prime spots.

Their anger is righteous and understandable, since they happen to be at the receiving end back home. Their complaint is that the menfolk get addicted to the habit and keep drinking every day, thereby ruining peace and financial security in the family.

A group of villagers, with women outnumbering men, arrived in vehicles here on Tuesday and turned up at the office of the deputy commissioner. On enquiries they said that they had come from Chatnahalli and Agrahara villages in Kadur taluk.

Curiously enough, they were not demanding better facilities or infrastructure or school or roads or shifting of a liquor shop away from their village.

On the contrary, all they wanted was an assurance that a ‘brandy shop’ – a common name for an alcohol outlet – would not be shifted out of their village. They told the mediapersons that they depended on agriculture and made a living by hard physical labour.

They said that at the end of the day, literally so, they needed relief and rest with a right dose of alcohol. If, as proposed, the liquor outlet was shifted to Sakharayapatna, they would have to spend Rs 50 per head on transport. There would not be any problem to anyone if the present shop continued to operate.

When they categorically stated that they wanted the brandy shop to continue to function to enable them to rid themselves of the fatigue after hard work, DC Shadakshari, additional DC Vaishali and the escort staff could only break into smiles, although they were taken by surprise.

According to sources, there was another side to the story. Earlier on the day, a group of women from the same villages had come to stage a rally demanding that the liquor shop be moved out of the two villages.

The second rally was in fact a counter-protest, which was reportedly sponsored and motivated by the liquor lobby.

Jokes were heard among those who were present. The amount of Rs 50 saved on transport, as claimed by the women, would get recycled into liquor in any case, they felt.

Besides, some commented that after travelling all the way to Sakharayapatna to have a drink and returning home, the ‘kick’ obtained would have vanished.

That could be the point they were trying to make, some citizens opined. If it is true, no cheers for that.

  1. Isn’t what our ‘cheap liquor’ siddu wanted in our state? If I am right, his vision was to provide cheap liquor and free rice to all the poor families. This is the cultural mindset and product of Congress governance we had all these decades.

    • Dear Original RSS Duplicate Paimaam, you must first know your RSS folks, before making scathing and unfounded allegations against the Congress by saying, “This is the cultural mindset and product of Congress governance we had all these decades.”

Do you know the cultural mindset of BJP stalwarts?

The best example is Atal Bihari Vajpayee! He is well known for his insatiable craving for choicest brand of foreign liquor and daily servings of prawns and chicken curry with it. Even when he was visiting foreign countries, like the USA, he used to take best chaufs with him, specially recruited from Hotel Taj of Bombay etc!

Go through the “Morarji Dairy” allegations by Subramanian Swamy, who accompanied him to Peking as his deputy, in 1978; wherein Subramanian Swamy is reported to have complained to Prime Minister Morarji Desai that our foreign minister had no time to do any worthwhile job in Peking because of preoccupation with dames and pegs! That is why Vajpayee did not make him a minister in his cabinet and an infuriated Swamy went out from BJP, became the president of Janata Party and at last sold the Party to Liquor Barren Vijay Mallya of Bangalore.

  2. Pincode Pai continues to embarrass himself by posting irrational things!! He doesn’t seem to understand the difference between ‘Individual Choices’ and ‘Public Policies’!! There is no secret in Vajapayee’s drinking habits. It is very different from promoting ‘cheap liquor’ for poor!! One is individual choice while the second one is a matter of public policy! Let me give another example – As we all know, our Jannana is very actively involved in Kudroli temple management and activities. He is also an active member of Congres party. It doesn’t make Congress party a ‘Hindu nationalist’ party!! LOL

Pincode Pai refuses to acknowledge the ‘cultural mindset’ that I was referring to. Instead, he chooses to post embarrassing things to fool equally illiterates like Praveena and Mathew. How sad!

    • DEAR ORIGINAL RSS DUPLICATE PAIMAAM, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT YOUR CONCERN WAS NOT PUBLIC POLICY, BUT TO BELITTLE CONGRESS, AS A PREPARATORY EXERCISE BY THE RSS, TO MAKE IT EASY FOR THE BJP TO WIN IN KARNATAKA NEXT TIME!

YOU WANT TO SHATTER THE LAST BASTION OF THE CONGRESS, TO WIPE IT OFF. NEITHER BLACK MONEY, NOR THE SURRENDER OF NATIONAL INTEREST TO MUFTI TO GRAB POWER IN KASHMIR FOR THE BJP, NOR EVEN THE DAILY ATTACK BY PAKISTAN IN KASHMIR, DISGRACING OUR ARMED FORCES, BOTHERS YOU. YOUR MODI GOES AND KISSES NAWAZ SHARIF ON REGULAR BASIS. JUST RECOLLECT WHAT YOUR POLICY WAS EVEN WHEN ONE HUNDREDTH OF INCURSIONS WAS TAKING PLACE DURING THE CONGRESS RULE.

YOU WANT THE INTOXICATION OF POWER. DO NOT BOTHER ABOUT CHEAP LIQUOR.

  3. Dear readers,

It seems Siddu’s ‘Sarai’ not an choice for BJP constituency of CT Ravi.

The Union Minister Radha Mohan singh blaming farmer suicide and linking them love affairs and impotency. Now BJP should better find out the way delivering ‘Brandy shop’ to their step.

So that a shot can give them soothing pleasure to keep the minds busy from ‘Love affairs and impotent’ husbands.

    Jai hind
