Beijing, Jan 29 (IANS) Chinese stocks opened lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.11 percent at 2,652.85 points.
The smaller Shenzhen index opened 0.06 percent lower at 9,077.11 points, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, climbed 0.09 percent to open at 1,908.26 points.
Tokyo stocks advance on US shares’ rally
Tokyo stocks advanced in early trading on Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by the US shares closing higher overnight and a recovery in oil prices.
As of 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 10.11 points, or 0.06 percent, from Thursday to 17,051.56, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.46 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,397.56.
Early gainers comprised mining, oil and coal products, and foods-linked issues.
Chinese yuan strengthens against Dollar
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened by 12 basis points to 6.5516 against the US dollar on Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.
In China’s spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day, according to Xinhua news agency.
The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
Sensex gains 106 points in early session
A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Friday was trading 105.79 points, or 0.43 percent, up during the morning session.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 39.80 points, or 0.54 percent, up at 7,464.45 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 24,347.31 points, was trading at 24,575.36 points (at 9.22 a.m.) in the early session, up 105.79 points, or 0.43 percent, from the previous day’s close at 24,469.57 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 24,623.56 points and a low of 24,340.06 points in the trade so far.
