Chris Brown sued over 2014 club shooting

Los Angeles, June 28 (IANS) Former music mogul Marion “Suge” Knight has filed a lawsuit against singer Chris Brown and Los Angeles nightclub 1 Oak over a 2014 shooting where the former was left wounded. The party was hosted by Brown at the venue.

The lawsuit, filed on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the nightclub and Brown of not taking proper security precautions at the unofficial pre-MTV VMA Awards event, allowing at least one armed person to enter the venue, reports variety.com.

The lawsuit notes that Brown’s parties have a history of seeing violence break out, and also claims the R&B singer has gang ties.

“As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms,” the lawsuit said.

“As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and (Knight) was shot and seriously injured,” it added.

Knight was shot seven times at the party, sustaining injuries to his chest, abdomen and left forearm. Though not life-threatening, Knight has cited complications such as blood clots from the injuries in court hearings on an unrelated murder charge.

The attorneys claim that the fear that followed Knight in the months after the shooting caused him to flee when attacked in his car in 2015. Knight ran over two men in the incident, killing one.

The lawsuit asks that the defendants cover medical costs for past and future expenses of Knight’s injuries from the 2014 shooting, without naming a specific amount.

Knight, who has been convicted on felony counts twice, was also shot at a party thrown by rapper Kanye West in Miami beach in 2005.
