Out of the 17 calls, most of them were related to the traffic. The first caller of the day said that there is no proper bus stand for the passengers to wait for the bus. At Hampankatta, near Hotel Dhanyavad traffic congestion is a big problem. There was a suggestion that only women should be allowed to board the bus from the front door and men from the rear door.

Most of the commercial complexes do not have parking facilities which leads to the parking problem in the city. Some shops unnecessarily put “No Parking” board in front of their shops which should be removed. Some vehicles violate traffic rules and go in opposite direction on a one-way road, action should be taken against such vehicles. Another suggestion was to build a fully fledged autorickshaw stand in Suratkal. Action should be taken against the bus drivers who do not the bus in designated stops but alight the passengers wherever they wish, even in the middle of the road.

At Bendurwell, bus drivers stop the buses to board passengers in the middle of the road. High decibel horns should be banned. Senior citizens should be provided special seating facilities in buses. Action should be taken against those using mobile phones while driving/riding vehicles.

All the calls were attended and assured of taking action. People who had participated in the Phone-in programme appreciated the initiative taken by the police commissioner to listen to their problems. One of the callers thanked the Mangalore North police for admitting him to the hospital while he had met with an accident.
